~ Media Education Rocks 🤟

💠 Back to Europe, back to winter and the season started with a media literacy training for educators and high school students.
💠 This time I shadowed professional filmmakers delivering and I supported their process.
💠 Getting new insights on the non-formal education methods delivering media education courses.
💠 This time working with schools from Greece, Spain, Bulgaria and Croatia.
💠 Exploring the group dynamics in media education through already formed groups.
💠 Making scripts for cultural movies in the hometowns of the students
💠 Learning visual grammar from through practice by making “the chase” assignment where participants had to film a chase movie
💠 101 Editing movies
💠 Flying drones 🧑‍✈️ for educational purposes
💠 Making stop motion movies
💠 Exploring Zagreb while having in mind what cultural elements can be filmed by the students in the next part of the program.
💠 All this happened in a 415 year old classical school.
🍒 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑚𝑦 𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔?🍒
Film Education and Media as a non-formal education methodology are close but they can have a way different impact on how they are used.

🌳 This was 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 joint staff meeting of the school partnership aiming to empower students and school staff with the tools they need to record their own videos dedicated to their city, and take us on a walk with them in 1-second-shots 🤳

~ Context is the King 🏰

▶️ Back to back the Media training traveled from Cyprus to Poland, from 26oC to 6oC, from a tourist destination to a welcoming local community.
▶️ 6th time doing this training equipped me with the confidence that this training curriculum came here to stay.
▶️ Getting new insights on how post-Covid Erasmus+ will look like. (Closing the group last minute, having 68 dropouts!)
▶️ This time the impact of the training in the local community of Drezdenko was the thing 🚀
▶️ Performing the very first Erasmus+ project in the region was a nice ✅
▶️ Working with an inexperienced association was actually the best thing that could happen to me because I always had endless support and engagement.
▶️ Having a group with no pros in videomaking was an incredible experience because the level of productions were way above any expectations due to the synergy and involvement in the group tasks.
▶️ During the training participants created 43 videos within 7 days of working with media and 4 of them for some local social initiatives.
▶️ All these we did with frugal production tricks (smartphones, gorillapods, puppets, lots of paper tape, and any equipment and prop available)
▶️ Having the chance to do things that I don’t usually do in trainings was at least something I will keep with me for long time (being welcomed with a red carpet and vodka (literally), meeting with the Mayor of the city, giving interview to the local TV, attending a dance performance for the third age university, and some other cool things).
🍒 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑚𝑦 𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔?🍒
Money is not the only currency existing. Time is also one and it is way more important.
Great reflection to finish the marathon of my projects and hibernate in Athens until the next trainings season in 2022.

📀 The first training of the decade was a media training, after 22 months without offline training I restarted with my favourite training.
📀 5th time doing this training gave me the possibility to understand it better and find ways to level it up.
📀 It felt too weird and so familiar at the same time flying after 20 months. ✈️
📀 Extending summer by doing this training in the warm still summerish Cyprus was a blessing to say goodbye to my never-ending summer.
📀 Working with videomaking is always entertaining because results are tangible especially when the videos are connected with the local community where the training takes place.
📀 During the training participants created 5 Social Promotional videos for non-profit organizations in Limassol, Cyprus
📀 All these we did with frugal production tricks (smartphones, gorillapods, lots of paper tape, and any equipment and prop available)
📀 More and more I realise that this training is giving to people what they want, no matter what they seek for (either it is learning, either it is leisure, either it is a life-changing experience).

It’s ok to leave out from the content of the training favorite parts of mine. It’s not about what I like, it’s about what supports the process.
